Set your calendar to August 23, 2026 for the next Blessing of the Animals service outside in the back gated area at the West Chelmsford United Methodist Church, 242 Main St. North Chelmsford, MA!
Our first Blessing of the Animals event in 2024 was a special service where we blessed all kinds of animals. We were led by our guest speaker Deacon Chris Everhart, St. Pius X Parish, Manchester, NH and Rev Geisa Matos from WCUMC in the church's backyard.
Last year's event had over 100 congregation members and community guests sharing a special time with a menagerie of pets including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, birds, mice, rabbits, and a turtle. Pets were sprinkled with holy water and given a prayer blessing. Refreshments and animal treats were served after the service with plenty of time to get to know everyone and their pets. A photo booth was constructed for all to take family/friend pictures with their furry or feathery friends. The WCUMC partnered this event with the Lowell Humane Society Pet Food Pantry where an overflowing table of pet food and supply donations were collected and packed up in the representative's car to take back to the Lowell Humane Society Pet Food Pantry. The donations were deeply appreciated.
Our plan is to have this event every year.
